May 14, 2016 was a beautiful day for a run along the waterfront at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington, NY. Over 200 runners and walkers participated in the 10th Annual Jack’s Run for Autism, a 5k fundraiser put on each spring by Nassau Suffolk Services for Autism.
Volunteers were on hand bright and early, balloon filling, arrow laying, table cleaning, muffin cutting, tee shirt dispensing – all the things that need to happen before a successful run. We couldn’t do it without their tireless help.
Thanks to NSSA Board Members pitching in to help.
Runners get final instructions before the start…
And they’re off!!!
Runners and walkers alike, all were there to support a common cause.
Families ran together…
Staff tackled the 3.10 mile course.
There were newcomers…
And even the family dog!
Smiling volunteers kept runners on track.
Congratulations to 13-year-old Sophia Muccini for being the overall race winner and Top Overall Female with a course-breaking record of 19:52.7.
Congratulations also to Rob Devinney for coming in as Top Overall Male.
Runners enjoyed a post-race breakfast and games generously provided by local companies:
Bagel Boss, Roslyn
Holiday Farms of Roslyn
Horn of Plenty of New Hyde Park
Kuck’s Deli, Mineola
New friendships were formed…
Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth was kind enough to visit the event and proclaim that Saturday, May 14, 2016 be declared a day of special recognition throughout the town of North Hempstead for Jack’s Run for Autism in recognition of its 10th anniversary.
Prizes were awarded to happy, deserving winners.
And Jack himself with his family who does so much for Jack’s Run and NSSA.
Thanks to our generous sponsors.
Thank you to EVERYONE who contributed to making Jack’s Run a success and who continues to support NSSA.
In spite of the cool foggy morning on May 9, Jack’s 5K Run for Autism was a bright spot in the day.
Runners, volunteers, teachers, families, and staff all showed up to help make the event a success.
A first-timer was the overall winner, congratulations!
We had lots of helpers.
It was great to see so many youngsters doing the run!
Thanks to everyone who showed up to run and volunteer, and to the many people who made donations online at https://www.firstgiving.com/Page/3042873/Donation – and it’s not too late to help, donations can be made at FirstGiving through August 2015.
