Once a week sportscaster Vinnie Micucci, from Voicemaster123.com, visits NSSA to work with some students and clients on “targeting social, language & vocational skills through broadcasting and voice acting.” This week students and teachers ran through a mock Thanksgiving Day Parade broadcast, practicing a blend of reading written notes and ad-libbing segues from one “announcer” to the next. Students are reminded to speak clearly and loudly, and to use appropriate intonation to hold listeners’ interest.
After a couple practice rehearsals, students went into the soundbooth wearing headphones to read their lines, which were recorded by Vinnie to be watched later in playback. The videos are a useful tool for the students to actually see what they did well and what they can work on improving next time.
Students enjoyed “running lines” with their coach while improving language and social skills, and even the teachers seemed to be having fun!
