After first meeting Congressman Steve Israel earlier this month at Jack’s Run, we were pleased to have him visit the Martin C. Barell School last week.
He had a tour of the building and he met some of our students and staff, and got to see classes and programs in action. He also got to meet Tyler of BirthdayBack.
The Congressman seemed quite impressed with young Tyler and he promised to talk about his organization when he next spoke on the floor of Congress. True to his word, he did that very thing! (click image below to see video)
When Tyler told the Congressman about his BirthdayBack organization, Israel shared with Tyler that his birthday was May 30 – today! So, Happy Birthday to you, Congressman Israel, from your friends at NSSA. We very much appreciate the support you’ve shown for Autism Awareness and for NSSA.
We had a busy day here today at NSSA! Young Tyler F came to visit the school and hang out with his good friend Tyler W. Tyler F is an amazing young man who has an organization and Facebook page called BirthdayBack. After requesting charity donations instead of birthday gifts for two consecutive years, BirthdayBack was created on Tyler’s 10th birthday to inspire kids to Celebrate by Giving.
Earlier this year he posted this to his Facebook page:
What a great kid! He was able to donate $900 to NSSA that he raised through BirthdayBack!
Today he came to visit and we were all thrilled to meet him. He even had a surprise meeting with New York Representative Steven Israel, who was also visiting the Martin C. Barell School this morning.
They exchanged contact information and Israel tweeted about their meeting. Tyler was very excited to know that 13,000 people were going to read about his Birthday Back organization!
He visited *our* Tyler’s classroom and hung out with the students for the afternoon.
We want to thank Tyler and his organization Birthday Back for the very generous donation he made to the school, and for just being an all-around great kid and role model!
